Dorothy Marie Sargent

Dorothy grew up in the Southern Indiana area and was truly beloved by all of those around her. Dorothy thrived at the Community Montessori school in New Albany, Indiana where she loved working in the café as well as being a student. If you were lucky, you may have known her as Girl Scout Camp Junior Mint Toto or perhaps if you were a close friend by Dor or D.

Dorothy loved being active by participating in gymnastics, Girls Scouts, ice skating, and running. She also loved playing board games with her friends and family while listening to Taylor Swift songs.

For friends and family lucky enough to spend time with Dorothy she always kept things real by giving it to you straight—she held no fools and kept all those around her honest while always being a loyal friend who would make a rainy day seem bright with her optimism.

Dorothy is survived by her big sister Delilah who she loved immensely along with her grandparents, Wendall and Linda Sargent, Gary and Rebecca Best; aunts and uncles; Laura Sargent-Henning, Steven Henning, Gwendolyn and Russell Stewart and cousins; Jake Henning, Edward Riley Henning, Thomas Stewart, and Mary-Katheryn Stewart.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM.

Thomas Wilder said, “It’s hard to turn the page when you know someone won’t be in the next chapter.” …and although the coming days, weeks and months will not be easy we can all find solace in Dorothy’s favorite quote, “Create the life you can’t wait to wake up to.” In honor of Dorothy, create the life that gets you out of bed as Dorothy did everyday of her life!
