

Doug was a deeply spiritual person and had meaningful connections with St. Mark’s United Church of Christ. He was known for his kind, gentle heart and the compassion he extended to others.
He pursued his education at Indiana University, earning a degree in history, and also obtained associate degrees in computer studies and interior design. Doug was a man of many talents. Musically gifted, he played the trumpet, piano, and organ. He also had a strong artistic side, expressing himself through painting and detailed renderings of historic homes. Doug had an appreciation for flowers. He loved creating floral arrangements and took pride in cultivating beautiful gardens at his home.
Professionally, Doug worked as a Public Relations Assistant at Floyd Memorial Hospital. Earlier in his career, he served as a phlebotomist and also worked with Smith-Kline Corporation.
Doug is survived by his devoted partner of 32 years, Robert Vetter; his sisters, Vickie Carpenter and Denise Nolot (Rick); his nieces, Erin Daugherty (Max) and Hilary Nolot; and his great-niece, Adyson Daugherty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marlene Heeb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Doug’s honor to GBS-CIDP Foundation International.
Memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 13, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
