Edward M. Roth, 93, passed away February 9, 2022, at his home in Clarksville, Indiana. He was born July 7, 1928, in New Albany, Indiana to the late Michael and Maude Dreyer Roth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Norma Evans Roth; an infant brother, Peter James; and his sisters, Ann Hardin, Mercedes Williams, Grace Engle, Veronica (Bonnie) Trobaugh, and Magdeline Treser.
Ed is survived by his children, Kevin Roth (Carla), Kim Meador (Leon), and Patti Finch (Fred); grandchildren, Dr. Casey Roth Roberts (Galen), Stefani Dayvault, Seth Dayvault (Casey), Mallory Jackson (Tyler), Maddie Meador, and Jonathan Finch (Carrie); and six great grandchildren, Bennett, Ellison, Grant, Hadley, Rowan, and Maxwell.
Ed, better known as “Eddie” to his classmates, attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and New Albany High School where he excelled as an athlete, lettering in eight sports. He was a graduate of Hanover College and Indiana University. After completing his service in the United States Army, Ed worked as a teacher and Administrator, serving as Principal at Clarksville High School, Charlestown High School, Parkview Middle School and Assistant Principal at Jeffersonville High School. He was a respected education mentor; a frequent lecturer for the Indiana Principal’s Leadership Academy and the founder of the Madeline Hunter-based T4 (Teachers Teaching Teachers to Teach) program. Ed’s business knowledge in the classroom was enhanced by his ownership of a Papa John’s franchise in Floyds Knobs and “The Swiss Sweet Shop,” a favorite ice cream spot in Clarksville, Indiana. He was a member of Wall St. United Methodist Church and enjoyed summer trips to Michigan and ballroom dancing with his wife, Norma.
Visitation will be 3 pm ~ 8 pm Tuesday, February 15th and after 10 am Wednesday, February 16th at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be 11 am Wednesday in the Kraft Spring Street Chapel with burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany.
