

EDWARD J. WEINMANN, 96, died Sunday, February 8, 2015. The son of the late Henry and Kathleen (Martel) Weinmann, Ed was born March 9, 1918 in New Albany. He was retired from the United States Postal Service after many years of service. From 1942-1946, he served during World War II in the Army Signal Corp. As Administrative NCO, he served with the 3198 Signal Service Battalion for 17 months in India, Burma, and China. As Battalion Sergeant Major, he supervised handling of all personnel records, special orders, correspondence and reports and had charge of an office force of ten men. He was past Treasurer and member of NARFE, life member of Red Men’s Club and Cardinal Ritter Order of Knights of Columbus, and delivered for Meals on Wheels for over 30 years. Ed was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Albany; having served as treasurer for the Men’s and Shrine Club for years, and where he faithfully served as a Eucharistic Minister. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 6 siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Kathleen “Katie” Day Weinmann; sister, Gertrude Gilmore; brother, George Weinmann and his wife, Helen; brother-in-law, Everett Day and his wife, Pat; and a multitude of loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation from 3:00 pm ~ 7:00 pm Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, IN. There will be a Rosary Service at 6:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
