Funeral services for Gary E. Blackman, 68, of New Albany, will be 10:00 am Saturday, December 11, at Kraft Funeral Services, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services, New Albany.
He was an avid fisherman and a native of New Albany. He retired after 26 years as an inspector with the USDA, and then founded Bassett Homes and built numerous homes in Southern Indiana.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Reed Blackman; sons, Ben Blackman and his wife, Teri, Brian Blackman and his wife, Betsy and Jason Blackman; daughters, Kelly Light and her husband, John “Doc,” and Christene Reed; brothers, Allen Schuler, Tony Schuler and Bobby Schuler; family and fishing buddies, Herb Stickler and Jimmy Stickler; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Blackman; mother, Anna Mildred Schuler; stepfather, Norman Schuler; and favorite canine companion, Sam.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday.
The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Alzheimer’s Association.
