I am so sad to have stumbled across this!  I was thinking about Glenn today while looking at some vintage Audio Research tube amplifiers and wishing I could reach out to him for an opinion.  I met Glenn while in high school at Laramie Wyoming through a local audio group that was obsessed with putting together the most accurate sounding stereo within the range of our individual budgets (Mine was on the low end).  We spent many hours at each others homes listening to and fine tuning our systems, and I always looked forward to being at his home as he always served us a great dinner and as much wine as we could drink, which made quite an impression on a young college student.  I would marvel at his vacuum tube gear, and over time ended up putting together a system of my own that was similar to his.  The long hours spent talking about music, food, the opposite sex, and life were magical, and I saw him as somewhat of a mentor.  When I got married in 1984, his wedding gift was in cash.  I don't have to tell you how important that was to us at that time of our lives.  I moved to Oklahoma afterwards, but anytime I was back in Laramie I'd look him up.  Such a caring and interesting person, he was a true role model for young people.  It makes me sad that we finally lost touch.  I'd love to call him today.  I'm going home tonight and firing up my vintage tube gear, putting some Miles Davis on the turntable, cracking open a fine bottle of wine and toasting my friend.  Glenn, you were one of the good guys!  Best of thoughts to his family and friends and all whom he touched.  Such a legacy!!

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Glenn at Western Research Institute (WRI) in Laramie, WY. He was a kind funny person . I enjoyed working with him and learned a lot from him. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I can't put into words, how sorry I am, at the loss of Glenn.  I never knew him well, but heard stories growing up, about Glenn Michael, and his parents. Never short on memories,  from the family! We also went to NAHS, at the same time for a year.   He loved you very much, I know this, and know, that you have many lovely memories, you will carry with you, forever.  God bless you, and hold you in the palm of His hand.
I hope to see you, at some point, and do some catching up!

I am gutted! Learned this morning that my lifelong childhood friend, Glenn Mason, died last night. I have soooo many memories running around in my head! The day we met in the fall of 1956! His was the first curly head I had ever seen!! (I remember the shirt he was wearing.)
Playing as kids: 1) In his basement with all his fabulous toys. 2) War in the Elm Street woods against the Spring street kids. 3) “German Lights” spy games on summer nights. The Summer Vacation when we were drug to every battlefield in the Kentucky area (Perryville comes to mind). The many trips both families made for visits after we moved to Connersville.
I spent time in Louisville 5 summers (1966/1970) helping care for my grandmother; however, weekends were spent with Mason’s. Glenn and his good friend  Jimmy Bird took me to the first McDonalds I had ever seen. They also took me to a “Chicago” concert in August 1970. He stopped at Marian College later that fall  for a quick visit (20 min, we never moved from the parking lot) when driving between New Albany and Purdue. 
Twice he visited Ed & our family in Columbus. The first time he was showing off his new BMW. After taking me for a drive we sat in front of the house talking. He made me promise not to tell his folks how much he had paid for it!! More than our house cost! The second time was years later, at our Locust Dr home. He brought bakery goods from Rookies and we laughed at memories of Sunday morning stops after Church services. I don’t think he spent more than 10 minutes in either house, he was always in a hurry!
We saw each other less after that; both busy with life and family.
He was my twin. As an only child, he wanted to be a Shoemaker because we represented playmates. He was two weeks (to the day) older and our names rhyme.  We did have a yearly phone call on his Birthday! Gads! I will miss those calls!!

I have the unique opportunity to work with and listen to students on a daily basis at the university.  Over the years, I have heard many students talk about Dr. Mason with such respect, admiration,  and enthusiasm.  He sparked a love of learning in his students, and I enjoyed seeing the twinkle in their eyes when they talked about his class lectures, his study abroad trips, and his wonderful personality.  His students adored him, and he instilled a lifelong love of learning amongst them all.  Dr. Mason leaves a special mark on IU Southeast, and one that will not be soon forgotten. My heartfelt sympathy goes to his wife and family, his colleagues, friends, and students.  Godspeed, Dr. Mason, from one who knows the impact you had on those you loved.  ~kim

I knew Dr. Glenn Mason first as my professor at IU Southeast when I began my journey in Geology way back in 2003.  I later knew him to be my advisor, my mentor, my encourager, my motivator, my “boss” and, most importantly, my friend.  My fondest memories include all of our long talks that started with a quick “have a good weekend” and our countless Geology trips through the years both as a student and as a fellow faculty member.  Our department, school and university will not be the same without Dr. Glenn Mason.  My thoughts and prayers are with Pam and his family, his friends, colleagues and students.
