Helen Hammer

Helen (Shaw) “Bunny” Hammer,97 years of age, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at her home in New Albany. She was born March 20, 1920 in Chicago, IL to the late Alfred and Helen Shaw. Bunny was employed during World War II in Oak Ridge, TN working on the Manhattan Project, and was a member of the Silver Hills and Alpha Clubs as well as St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New Albany. She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver Hammer, her grandson Oliver Marsh, and her sister, Dorothy White. She is survived by her daughters Rachel Sue Hammer (John Wall), Helen Starr Brown (Ken), and Dorothy “Dotty” Newkirk (Rick), 7 Grandchildren, and 7 Great-Grandchildren. Visitation will be 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. Her Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany.
