Herbert K. Winstel passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2020, in Louisville at the age of 91. He was born on October 9, 1928 in Louisville to John and Margaret Winstel and was the youngest of six children.
Herb had a lifelong passion for golf beginning as a caddy at the Louisville Country Club when he was 14 and proudly achieved his first hole-in-one at the age of 69. He was honored to have served as a Marine during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the Kentucky Air National Guard as Master Sargent.
Herb was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, mother and father, two sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Winstel of Louisville and Sandra Zinner (Rick) of Jacksonville, FL, and step-grandchildren, Kirk Zinner (Heather) of High Point, NC and Zach Zinner of Jacksonville, FL. Also surviving are five step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A private burial service will be held at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, KY on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS, 66675-8516. (support.woundedwarriorproject.org)
