Around his family, Jack was a quiet and reserved man, and can you blame him, surrounded by so many people all the time?! With friends and strangers, he was borderline gregarious, happy to chat about his family, the history of Southern Indiana, antique cars or just about anything else.
He loved cars. Whether he was driving rental cars around the country following his retirement from ADT in 1990, visiting 49 out of 50 states with his wife and their friends, chasing hot air balloons across the country and around the world, collecting antique cars (he was the proud owner of a 1938 Plymouth Coupe, a 1941 Plymouth Coupe, and a 1962 Chevy Impala, among others) or just being driven around in his later years visiting family and friends. As recently as his early 90s he was constantly trying to buy another car just in case he wanted to go somewhere.
He loved his community and his church. A devoted and active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church he could often be found around the parish helping with the annual St. Anthony Picnic – often frying the chicken (it was really good fried chicken) - or selling raffle tickets to benefit the Men’s Club. Up through his 80s he could be found mowing his “elderly” neighbors’ yards.
