

Ira “D” Massey, 92 years of age died Tuesday August 13th, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. Ira was born March 28th, 1921 in Henderson, Kentucky to the late Gorden and Eliza (Downs) Massey. He was retired in 1981 after 40 years of service for General Motors with the old Liddie and Cooke Pontiac and Cadillac Motor companies. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, a receipient of three Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He served on D-Day at Omaha Beach and in Normandy, France. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Albany where he was the school bus driver for several years. Ira was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Massey in 2003.
Survivors include five Children, Rosita Fleischman, Edward Massey and wife Dinah, Larry Massey and wife Ann, Jane Smith and husband Art, Karen Bishop and husband Steve; ten grandchildren, Bryan, Justin, Sagan, Rick, Tim, Maryl, Meredith, Ryan, Andrea, Brent; one great grandchild, Zachary.
Reception of family and friends will be from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, August 16th at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am Saturday at the Kraft Charlestown Rd. Chapel with military honors. Private burial will be at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana
