James "Jim" B. Hammel, age 86 passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025. Jim was born in Mulberry, Indiana on June 16, 1939 to the late Chester and Bertha Hammel. He was a volunteer fire firefighter in Mulberry, Indiana and retired from CSX Railroad as a machinist with over 34 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed working at Covered Bridge Golf Course. He was a member of Southeast Christian Church and sung in the Master's Men Choir. At his church, he loved working with the animals at the Easter pageant. He enjoyed making model trains, woodworking and spending lots of time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Betty E. Disinger; and a half brother, Raymond Hammel.
Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Anne Hammel; two children, Dennis Hammel (Tina) and Julia Hammel-Furlong (David); grandchildren, Tyler Hammel, Jordan Hammel, Morgan McCutcheon (Dennis), Madison Hammel and Elizabeth Furlong; great grandchildren, Kase Hudson McCutcheon and Kole Walker McCutcheon and a host of extended family.
Visitation for Jim will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM with entombment at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
