Obituary of James E. Lee
JAMES E. LEE, born June 10, 1932 at 83 years of age passed away at Floyd Memorial Hospital after an illness on August 1, 2015. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Agnes M. (Ball) Lee, and his children Richard M. Lee (Jana), Laura J. Goad (Aaron), and Trudy K. Reister. He had 11 grandchildren, Stacy Ricketts, Justin Lee, Jamie Smith, Julia Lee, Gavin Goad, Grant Goad, BJ Reister, Nikki Cox, Thomas Reister, Traci Hardy, and Carrie Rohner and 5 great-grandchildren, Peyton Ricketts, Karsyn Smith, Sophia Smith, Lucas Reister, and Kyla Hardy. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Blanche (Snapp) Lee and Richard Lee. He is survived by his step-mother, Bea Lee; sisters, Donna Walton (Tom), Patty Jefferson (Paul), Dickie Knable (Bill), Linda Roark (Joe), and Jackie Kraft (Charles); and brother, Larry Lee (Sharyl). He was a native of New Albany and retired from Voit-Lee Insurance Agency. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3281. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1950 and Spencerian Business College in 1959. He served active duty in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War and inactive duty from 1955-1959. He coached little league and Babe Ruth baseball, serving as President and Vice-President from 1964-1970. He was athletic director and coached Our Lady of Perpetual Help 7th and 8th grade basketball from 1970-1982, Deanery Athletic Coordinator for the New Albany Deanery from 1982-2002 and Trustee of Floyd Memorial Hospital from 1996-2003. He was awarded the St. John Boscoe Medal in 1976, The God and Youth Award in 1993 for volunteering for over 30 years of service and the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana Award for Volunteer Service. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm Tuesday and after 9:00 am Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd., New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
