

Born on September 25, 1941, to Leo and Bernice Bagshaw Lori and was a life-long resident of New Albany. James lived a life defined by hard work, adventure, and devotion to his family. He was known for his independent spirit, determination, and ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
James proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis on a destroyer at Guantanamo Bay. He began his career as a truck driver and later worked as an electrician for Pillsbury, where he spent many years. James was a member of the 1st volunteer group with the New Albany Police Department. Never one to stop learning or pursuing new challenges, James earned his private pilot's license and enjoyed countless hours flying with family and friends before suffering a stroke.
For the past 19 years, James shared his life with his loving companion, Gail Thieman. Together they enjoyed many adventures traveling across the country and spending winters in Florida, creating lasting memories, and embraced life to the fullest.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bernice Bagshaw Lori; his wife, Naomi Ruth Harrell Lori; his son, James L. Lori; his brother, William Lori; and his sister, Peggy Carmickle.
He is survived by his daughters, Wendie Kaiser (Lynn) and Paula Turner; his sons, Glenn Lori (Scarlett) and Jeremy Lori (Angela); his daughter in Love, Laura Lori; his beloved companion, Gail Thieman; two sisters, Virginia Forman (Mike) and Carolyn King (Paul) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren: Adam Waters (Kari), Eric Waters (Serenity), Jared Waters (Erin), Drake Waters (Beth), Kyle Lori, Madalyn Joplin (Dean), Grace Lori, Anna Lori, Andrew Gresham, Sierra Lori (Paul), JaLynn Lori (Tylor), Jordan Lori (Michaela), Debbie Workman, and Karen Camillo.
In addition, James is survived by 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him tremendous joy and pride.
James will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, love of family, and the many stories he shared throughout his life. Whether behind the wheel of a truck, working with his hands, piloting an aircraft, or spending time with those he loved, he embraced life with determination and enthusiasm.
His legacy lives on through the generations of family he helped shape and the many lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is now at peace.
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, Indiana 47150, on June 22, 2026, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at Kraft Funeral Service on June 22, 2026, at 2:00 pm with entombment at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
