James O. Wisman, 82, of Floyds Knobs, passed away surrounded by his family on August 16, 2026. James was born on August 25, 1943, to the late Mervin Wisman and Virginia (Lillpop) Wisman. He attended Lanesville High School, where he enjoyed baseball and was an accomplished pitcher. He tells everyone about the good old days and how he was "almost" drafted by the New York Yankees. However, his biggest accomplishment was meeting his future wife, Carolyn, during his high school years. James and Carolyn shared more than 63 years of marriage, emulating what true love and commitment looks like.
James was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and a proud member of the American Legion. James retired from Ford Motor Company, but never stopped working. His work ethic took him many places, including mowing thousands of yards and painting hundreds of cars for friends, family, and any other random person that stopped by his house with anything on wheels. It was also not unusual for Jim to pull out his homemade wine as a bonus either to start or to complete the project.
James is preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Ronnie, Frankie, and Mike Wisman.
James is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carolyn Wisman; his children, Charlotte Ipsan (Robin), James "Tony" Wisman (Brookie) and Mervin "Scott" Wisman (Beth); his grandchildren, Brandon Freiberger (Laura), Tyler Freiberger (Ashley), Kelsey Ramsey (Nathan), Ian Ipsan (Jennifer), Sydney Dauby (Hunter), Emrie Agnew (Jarrett), Dalton Wisman and Blake Wisman; 10 wonderful great grandchildren; his sisters, Kathy Ann Daily, Nancy Tomes (LeRoy), Christine Myrick (Billy), Vickie Sizemore (Rusty), and Cindy Phelps (Dwayne); a host of nieces and nephews; and many extended family and friends.
Jim is now moving on to his next adventure. He has plans to drink a Miller High Life with his brothers, play a round of golf, get many squirrels, and catch the biggest fish around.
