Jan graduated from Purdue University and went on to receive her Master’s Degree from the University of Louisville. Jan was a beloved teacher to many at Georgetown and Floyds Central High School for over thirty years. She also taught English to the Spanish-speaking community of New Albany. Jan was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and shared her joy of life with everyone she met.
Jan is survived by her long-time companion, Eddie Hancock; her son, Jon Stuart; her daughter, Ann Bridges; her grandchildren, Kara Thompson, John Ryan, Shane Bridges, and Kody Schlageter; her nieces, Joan, Mary Chris, Kathy, and Karen; her great grandchildren Teagan and Hayden Schlageter and Jonah, Noah, and Lyla Thompson. Jan is also survived by her dog, Dixie, who she loved dearly.
Jan is preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Schlageter; her son, Stanley Schlageter; and her brothers, Bruce Fell and Frank Fell, Jr.

Visitation will be held for Jan on Thursday, February 25, 2021 from 3 pm - 8 pm at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, IN 47150. Her funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
