John was a longtime mathematics teacher at Floyd Central High School, where he dedicated his career to educating generations of students. He was also a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maxine Dersch; Son, Jim Dersch (Kate Reedy); brother, Ronnie Dersch (Marcie); and niece, Julie Cosby.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Organ Fund at St. Mark's United Church of Christ.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Home, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 p.m. Private entombment will take place at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
