John Richard Sims

John Richard Sims, 86, passed away peacefully at Green Valley Care Center, on December 9, 2025. John was born on July 11, 1939 in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late John Wilford Sims and Kathryn (Tuell) Sims. He was a longtime resident of Clarksville, Indiana. John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army with serving two years active duty and five years in the Army Reserves. He served an apprenticeship for four years at the Naval Ordinance and continued as a tool and die machinist until retirement after 38 years. John was a devoted catholic and a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville, Indiana.

John is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Christopher Goffinet; a brother, Bernard Sims; and a sister-in-law, Dana Sims.

John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joyce (Tatlock) Sims; his children, Rex (Sandy) Sims, Robin (Robert Knoerr) Sims, J.R. (Tami) Sims II; his grandchildren Sarah (Jake) Hannon, Jacob Sims, Ben Goffinet, and Adam (Mikaela) Sims; great grandchildren, Jackson, Olivia, Garrett, Natalie, and Ava; and many extended family and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, on Friday, January 9, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

A memorial service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 9, 2025, at 2:00 pm with services officiated by Friar John Banman. John's ashes will be inurned at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to John's church, Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
