Kraft Funeral Service
Joseph Wallace Krininger Jr. (Joe or Joey), 77, of New Albany, Indiana passed away September 27, 2022 at Baptist Health Floyd with his children by his side. He was born on March 8, 1945 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Joseph Wallace Krininger and Ruth Weber Krininger. He was a retired Sergeant for the Floyd County Sheriff's Department and served in the United States Army. After retirement from the sheriff's department, he continued his career with the Floyd County Road Department. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church and a graduate of Providence High School's Class of 1963.
Joe was a member of the American Legion and the Indiana Sheriffs' Association and a supporter of several Native American tribes. He had a life-long interest in history, ancient cultures, and travel as well as a passion and love for the outdoors, nature, and animals. Later in life Joe became a musher, learned to rock climb, and continued hiking, camping, backpacking, and boating.
He was a talented artist who enjoyed abstract painting with oil and canvas and creating various art pieces and jewelry with relics, natural objects, and artifacts he found. Earlier in his life he was also a musician and played the saxophone. He often recounted fond memories of playing with his band.
His ultimate joy in life, however, came through spending time with his five grandchildren. He embraced his role as grandparent with unmatched enthusiasm and just loved being with them. He rarely missed an opportunity to attend their many sports events, recitals, honors, awards, celebrations, ceremonies, and parties. He loved showering them with gifts and candy, and supported them unconditionally in all of their pursuits. He was, without a doubt, one of the best and most unique grandpas anyone could have. He was their "DoeDoes" and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents Joe is preceded in death by his wife, Deanna Risley Krininger; a sister, Donna Krininger Hancock; a brother, Jack "Pop" Krininger; a nephew Kevin Krininger; and loyal companions Rudy and Oscar Krininger.
Joseph is survived by four children, Marc Krininger (Tina), Brooke Krininger (Alex Omura), Nicole (Nikki) Krininger (Tom Simmons), and Brett Krininger; five grandchildren, Brayden Dannenfelser, Ashley Krininger, Alli Krininger (Tyra Lindsay), Otto Omura, and Eve Omura; cousin Joan Durlaf; special friend Ada Maria; and many loved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm with Scripture Reading & Sharing at 7:00 pm on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150.
