Obituary of Joseph V. Summers
Joseph V. Summers, 93, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana entered into rest on Monday, April 27, 2020. Joe was the 7th out of 10 children of Virgil and Anna Lee Summers. He was a Navy WWII veteran stationed on the USS Los Angeles heavy cruiser. After his return from the service, he married Betty L. Harrison in 1948. They were married 68 years when Betty passed away in 2016. He worked for Shaeffer Varnish, American Marietta, Mobil and ultimately Exxon Mobil for 35 years. During their lifetime together they had four children, Betty Jo (Robert) Ray, Patricia Ann Lowman (Don) Sharp, Julie Kay (Michael) Gatrost and Joseph Harrison (Brenda) Summers. He is also survived by loving grandchildren, Christopher D. Ray, Sarah E. Franco, Benjamin Lowman, Kara Garrison, Kristen Ergenbright, Ashley Jansen, Devin Gatrost, Jessica Coriell, Isabella Summers and Evangeline Summers; great grandchildren, Reilly Ray, Violet Ray, Rose Franco, Isaac Hodges and Gracyne Hodges; two brothers, Elwood Summers and Donnie Summers and numerous nieces and nephews. Throughout his life he enjoyed cars, music, art, grew to be a follower of Jesus Christ and was a student of the scriptures. He loved getting together with family, having a good meal and a laugh. He will be missed. Visitation will be conducted on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road with entombment in Kraft Graceland Memorial Park. Friends and family may view his service on Facebook live on Monday, May 4, 2020 on the Kraft Funeral Service Facebook page at 3:00 p.m. If friends and family would like to be a part of the service, the family invites you to stay in your cars and line up along the main drive into the cemetery (before you get to Chapel of the Cross) on Monday and see his casket enroute to his final resting place.
