Joyce A. McLin Stumler, 87, of New Albany, Indiana passed away peacefully in the early evening of March 19, 2021 at Baptist Health Floyd. She was born on July 3, 1933 in Fairfield, Illinois to the late John Homer McLin and Ruth Ayres Burrucker.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Douglas Stumler and a daughter, Jenny Terry (David) and siblings, Josephine Greene, Mary Ann Becky, Elizabeth Applegate, Marilyn Maxwell, and John McLin, Jr.

Fig was truly one-of-a-kind. She was always known to be incredibly selfless and would love everyone generously, everywhere she went. She never met a stranger and would treat all as if her own.

Fig and Charlie were married for 69 beautiful years. They had four amazing children and spent many of those years traveling and going on vacation with other families. They always took road trips in that long station wagon we continue to hear about to this day. When traveling, they especially loved going to New Orleans. She would always talk about Bourbon Street, the music, the muffalatas and the Bloody Mary’s they would make in their hotel room in the morning.

She was an avid race fan and always looked forward to the Indy 500 every year, for over 60 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and bunco and was a long time member of those two clubs. With her fun-loving nature, she also enjoyed participating in so many other extra curricular activities if it meant being around friends and family and having a good laugh. Fig always loved a good party.

On any given day you could stop by and there she was sipping her favorite watered down iced tea, making photo albums of her grandkids and talking with Charlie at the kitchen table. Her many grandkids and great grandkids were a big part of her every day life. She made sure to always have the latest movies that were out, a deck of hole punched cards from the casino on the table and always had her special homemade “grandmas mix” for a snack. Some of her other favorite things included giving the kids their Christmas presents in individual potato sacks that she decorated by hand and then for birthdays, she always made sure the family got their Indy 500 tickets for the big race day. She loved giving. She gave to multiple charities every year and would always give the free gifts that were sent to her to everyone else.

Fig absolutely loved life and without a doubt, made it count. She made sure to pass down many traditions and make lots of memories along the way. We will forever hold a place for her in our hearts, and won’t be complete until we see her again.

Fig is survived by her husband, Charles F. Stumler Jr.; two children, Chuck Stumler (Rita) and John M. Stumler (Amy); six grandchildren, Erica, Jessica, Derek, Kaelin, Andrea and Holly; eight great-grandchildren, Anna, Elaina, Landon, Aniston, Maximus, Kaylin, Sophia and Isaac; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 3-8 on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Funeral Service will be in the Chapel of Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
