Kathryn retired after 25 years as a greeter at Walmart, where her warm smile and welcoming spirit brightened the days of countless customers and coworkers. She was a dedicated board member of Hedden House and a longtime member of Al-Anon, where she found purpose in helping and encouraging others.
A lifelong Catholic, Kathryn's faith remained a guiding force throughout her life. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, treasured traveling with her beloved companion, George Baker, and had a special love for butterflies, which reflected her gentle spirit and appreciation for life's simple beauty.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Patrick J. Hammond, affectionately known as the "Jolly Irishman"; her grandson, Trevor J. Baker; and eight siblings.
Kathryn leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her children, Trish Fraze, Martha Zimmerman (Jeff), Irma Warner (Gene), Cynthia Fischer, Teresa Hammond (Mike Meeks), and Sherri Baker (Richard). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Fraze II, Scotti Kay Decker (John), Carrie Fraze, Joe Scott Carter II, Justin Warner (Kari), Jenna Clem Warner (Shara), and Trent J. Baker (Kelsey); seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jim Cain, Glenna Farnsley (George), and Joan Hoffman; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Kathryn will be remembered for her welcoming smile, compassionate heart, steadfast faith, and the love she shared so generously with everyone she met. Her legacy of kindness, devotion to family, and service to others will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Though she will be deeply missed, her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those she loved.
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150, on August 5, 2026, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, and again on August 6, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
