Kenneth Long, age 78, of New Albany, Indiana passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Kenneth was born on December 12th, 1945 to the late Charles and Jessie Mae (Smith) Long. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from the National Guard as well as General Electric after his long years of service.
Kenneth, also known by “Noot” or “Clean” by so many, was a man of service, honor, integrity, and compassion. As a young man he served in the Army over-sees and when he returned to the states, he continued his service in the National Guard for 21 years in the 151st Infantry, New Albany. He retired from General Electric after 30 years of service. His love of cutting grass and yard work was exemplary for himself and carried out service to others. One of his all-timed favorite things to do included going to Flea markets, setting up to sell items as well as buying unique and historical treasures. He also loved to hunt, fish and travel. Throughout his lifetime his passion for travel took him on many journeys to places in the states, internationally, and multiple mission trips to Haiti and the Dominican. He was a devout family man and a true example of a Patriarch to all his family and so many others. There are many memories of his camping trips, family cookouts, fish fries, and Sunday dinners that he loved so much. Not a day went by that he wasn’t helping others, visiting the sick and shut in, or attending events to support his grandchildren, family, and friends. Even in illness he continued to carry out his servant mentality. His cup overflowed with care and compassion for so many people, and even when we gave him a bigger cup, that one overflowed as well. He was both an advocate and served his community as a member of the Social 12 Club, New Albany for 30 years. Other organizations he was passionately involved in were National Guard Association, New Albany Civic Club, G.E. retirement club, Zodiac Motorcycle Club, and Local 761 Union member.
