Kim was born to Maria M. Merz West (Gretel) and the late Robert H. West (Bob) on January 24, 1968, in Yuma, Arizona.
Beside Arizona, Kim lived in New York, New Jersey, Idaho, Washington, Illinois before moving to Louisville in 1985.
She attended YPAS her senior year where she was first chair clarinet in band. After high school, she worked in banking and medical offices while going to community college. Kim met her husband, Steve in 1991 and moved to Indiana shortly after. They were married in 1994 and have lived in Sellersburg since then.
Kim loved people and never met a stranger. She adopted grandparents who had no grandchildren of their own and carried that relationship until they passed. Many of her son's (Blake) friends called her "Momma Lewis" because she treated them like they were her kids.
She enjoyed co-chairing the Annual Race for Education fund raiser at Christian Academy of Indiana while Blake attended school there.
Because of numerous surgeries, breast cancer and other medical issues over her adult life, Kim could not make a full-time career but did work many part-time jobs where she enjoyed and thrived in the variety of experiences. She supported her husband's business while providing a loving and comfortable home, especially working in her yard and planting flowers. Kim also watched her step grandchildren when they were young, took care of her mother-in-law and enjoyed spending time with her mother every week.
Kim is preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her husband, Steve Lewis of Sellersburg, Indiana; a son, Blake Lewis (Kyla) of Katy, Texas; her mother, Gretel West of Louisville, Kentucky; a brother, Mark West (Kim) of Louisville, Kentucky; a sister, Michelle Hollingsworth (Ricky) of Wilmore, Kentucky; a stepson, Damon Lewis (Janelle) of Sellersburg, Indiana; a stepdaughter, Samantha Lewis of New Albany, Indiana; and step grandchildren, Jackson, Darbi and Mazden Lewis.
