Lawrence W. Hammett

Lawrence William Hammett, 91, passed on May 18, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. He was born in New Albany, Indiana, on July 14, 1934, to the late Edwin Hammett and Geneva (McNutt) Hammett. Lawrence earned his degree from the University of Indiana-Bloomington and was a proud Hoosier. He worked as a certified public accountant before becoming self-employed as a financial planner until his retirement. He was also a proud veteran and served his country in the United States Army.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Doris (Hill) Hammett; and his siblings, Pearl Catherine (Trebing), Edwin James, Marquis Charles, Suzanna Elizabeth (Summers), George Albert, and Patrick Lee.

Lawrence is survived by his loving children, Matt Hammett (Ellen) and Valerie Hammett (Chuck Michniak); his wonderful grandchildren, Jordan Nicholson (Reece), Austin Hammett (Courtney), Kevin Hammett, Kolton Hammett, and Jackson Michniak; his great-grandchildren, Rendyn Nicholson, Easton Hammett, and Hank Hammett; and many extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana, on May 22, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location at 11:00 am. His burial will follow at Saint Mary's of New Albany, New Albany, Indiana.
