Lawrence A. Smith Jr., 96, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2026. He was born on April 24, 1930, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Lawrence A. Smith Sr. and Sylvia Benson Smith.
Lawrence proudly served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army. Following his military service, he retired from BF Goodrich after a long and dedicated career.
He was a man who was generous, kind, loving, outgoing, and friendly. Lawrence had a wonderful ability to make friends wherever he went and was known for his warm personality and willingness to help others. He cherished his family and the many friendships he made throughout his life.
Lawrence was an active and dedicated member of numerous organizations. He was a member of Kosair Shrine Temple, Kosair Golf Club, Kosair Sand Bugs, the Clarksville Tri County Shrine Club, where he was a lifetime member, and American Legion Post 28, also a lifetime member. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 39 and a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite in Evansville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Arthur Smith, Larry Smith, Kenneth Smith, Joyce Kaufer, and Janice Durham; and his stepdaughter, Cindy.
He is survived by his wife, Princess A. Smith; stepson, Jeff; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lawrence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, generosity, friendship, and loving spirit will remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, Indiana 47150, on August 24, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
