

MARY "HELEN" (KEACH) BAKER, 91 years of age, died September 30, 2015, at Providence Retirement Home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Eugene Baker, a long-time New Albany pharmacist. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Keach; her brother, George Keach; and her brother-in-law, Wayne Swift. Helen was a native of New Albany and a graduate of the New Albany Business College. During WWII she worked at the Jeffersonville Boat Works as the secretary to the general superintendent for the E.J. Electric Company which wired the LST ships. After the war, she worked briefly as a typist at Oak Ridge. Finally, she worked as a secretary for Brown Brothers Cadillac Company in Louisville. Helen was a member of Silver Street United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two children: James Baker (Kimberly) and Elizabeth Murphy (Charles). She is also survived by five grandchildren: Jenni Fite (Tom), Brian Baker (Jamie), Amy Grover (Bill), Brandon Baker, and Anne Cannon (Steven); eight great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Parker Keach (Polly), two sisters: Elva Swift and Gayle Owen (Lynn); and sister-in-law, Margaret Keach.
Visitation will be 3:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Friday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany. Her Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Saturday in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel.
Memorial gifts may be made in honor of her love of reading to the New Albany-Floyd County Public Library.
