

Mary Katherine Becher, 92, passed away Sunday, August 18 with a stroke. She was born on October 7, 1920 in Mobile, AL to her late parents, William and Mabel LeBlanc Barkman. She lived in Mobile, AL; Louisville, KY; Huntingburg, IN; and New Albany.
She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother. She was a homemaker and worked in retail sales in downtown Louisville stores, including The Joy Shop and Ben Snyder’s. Mary Katherine was a volunteer at the KY Derby Museum, a member of the KY Derby Museum Outrider’s Society, and was a frequent rider of TARC busses. She was a member of Hobart Beach VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. She and her husband were founding members of St. John Vianney’s parish and worshiped there for 33 years. In New Albany they belonged to Holy Family. Her last 6 years she lived at Providence Retirement Home, made friends, loved to read, and played Bingo.
Mary Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ambrose Becher (deceased 1998).
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Geswein (Gary) Palmyra, IN; two grandchildren Pamela Weber (Mark) Reston, VA and Christopher Geswein (Mallory) Columbia, MO; and three great-grandsons, Ryan & Evan Weber (VA) and Liam Geswein & twins on the way in MO.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. Her Funeral Mass will be 11:30 am Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 129 W. Daisy Ln, New Albany, Indiana with burial to follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
