Obituary of Melvin Tyler Dobbins
Melvin Tyler Dobbins, 55, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 after a long battle with lung cancer. Melvin was born August 26, 1958 in Indianapolis, IN to Mary Ella Tyler and the late Arthur Dobbins. Melvin was the fourth child of eleven children. He graduated from Broad Ripple High School then he started working in the food industry. Melvin worked as a cook at Norton Audubon Hospital and he was a chef at the Rivue Restaurant in the Galt house Hotel. Melvin became an ordained minister in 1982 and he was an associate minister at Eastside New Hope Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN and Galatian Missionary Baptist Church in New Albany, IN. Melvin is survived by his mother Mary Ella Dobbins, his daughter Jasmine Dobbins, his sisters Areatha Williams, Ruth Ann Dobbins, and Geraldine Dobbins, his brothers Spencer Dobbins, Claudius (Chick) Dobbins, and Thomas Dobbins. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur Dobbins, his brothers Arthur Dobbins, Jr., Eugene Dobbins, Michel (Mickey) Dobbins, and Willie Dobbins. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday, April 7, 2014 at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church, 2020 Maryland Ave., New Albany, IN. His celebration of life service will be 1:00 pm Monday, April 7, 2014 at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany.
