

Born in September 1931 to Alma Jerky Hale and Stanley Hale, Phyllis was a lifelong member of Park Christian Church, where she was actively involved for many years. She was known for her dedication to church activities, faithfully helping with bean soup suppers and yard sales, always lending a willing hand and a warm smile.
Phyllis had a love for life’s quiet pleasures. She enjoyed knitting, playing 500 rummy, and spending time with her favorite seek-and-find and puzzle books. She loved her wine on holidays, raising her glass to family, precious memories, and all the moments still waiting to be made. Her hobbies reflected her patience, attention to detail, and appreciation for meaningful moments.
Phyllis retired from Union National Bank, now PNC Bank, where she worked as an accountant. She took pride in her career and the relationships she built along the way.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William John Ehalt; her parents, Alma and Stanley Hale; and her brothers, James “Bud” Hale and Larry Hale.
Phyllis is survived by her loving family: her son, William “Bill” Joseph Ehalt (Laura Ehalt); her sister Debroah (Debbie) Sue Hale; her grandson, William “Billy” John Ehalt II (Heather Ehalt); her granddaughter, Kellie (Ehalt) DeSpain (Adam DeSpain); her great-grandchildren, Kaleb Ehalt, Kassidy “Kassi” Ehalt, Jace Ehalt, Aiden DeSpain, and Kyelen “Kye” DeSpain; and her great-great-grandchildren, Addison “Addi” Ehalt and Kason Ehalt. She leaves behind a family who will carry forward her values, memories, and love.
Phyllis will be remembered for her kindness, her steady faith, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150, on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at 6:00 pm at the same location with private burial at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
