

RAYMOND CALDWELL, SR., 88 years of age, departed this life on Sunday July 10, 2011 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN. The son of the late Leroy and Nannie (Cason) Caldwell, Raymond was born December 6, 1922 in New Albany. He was a World War II Army Veteran and was retired from the former Day Lumber Company with over 25 years of service. Raymond was a member of Second Baptist Church in New Albany, where he served diligently in various capacities. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Juel (Black) Caldwell. Raymond taught many things to his children, a strong Christian faith, uncompromising moral values, and a stellar work ethic. He was a man of few words, but of great wisdom, kindness and a loving husband, father and friend.
Survivors include his children, Raymond Caldwell, Jr. of New Albany, Keith Caldwell (Cynthia) of Cincinnati, OH and Joy Newkirk of Jeffersonville, IN; brother-in-law, James Hickerson of New Albany; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Friday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana and from 11:00 am ~ 1:00 pm Saturday at Galatian Baptist Church, 2020 Maryland Avenue, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday at Galatian Baptist Church with entombment and military honors to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany.
