Richard graduated with a teaching degree from Oakland City University and received a master’s degree from Indiana University. He taught at, and retired from, Crothersville Elementary after 30 plus years of service. Aside from his love of children, he enjoyed showing horses and playing golf.
Richard is survived by his life-long partner, Pam Johnson (Brown), daughters Nicki Shope (Dewayne) and Kassi Budka (Justin), son Chris Johnson (Courtney), grandchildren Bryce, Gabby, Max, Skyla, Molly, Elijah, and Kora, along with many nieces and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents Ellen and Boyd Caldwell, his sisters Sarah Baker and Ann Lawson, brother Gary Caldwell, and grandson Grant Johnson.
