Richard Dale Sellers, 78, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on September 12, 2026. Dick was born in New Albany, Indiana on July 31, 1948 to the late Paul and Eltheda Sellers. He was a graduate of the class of 1966 from New Albany High School. Dick was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Naval Air Division as an aircraft mechanic in the Vietnam War. He was a recipient of the Bronze and Silver Star. He continued to serve his community as a professional firefighter for the City of New Albany. Dick retired as a captain in 2007 from Station #2.
Dick continued his path of service as a deacon at Sacred Cross Oratory in Floyds Knobs. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, including being an outfitter and guide on Fox Island in Cape Vincent, New York. Dick enjoyed the lake life with boating and traveling, being in his workshop, but most importantly spending time with his family. His family marveled at his ability to tell a good story. He expressed that he lived the perfect life.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Paula Robinson; his in-laws, Bernard and Emilia Broadus.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Maria Sellers; his daughters, Stacey Sellers and Carrie Garrison (Tom); his grandsons, Cameron Croninger and Alex Brown; his siblings, Bill Sellers (Maureen), Gary Sellers (Pat), Frank Sellers (Karon), Jeff Sellers (Heidi), and Anita Bachman (Joe); many extended family and friends; and his devoted dog, Agnes "Aggie".
A visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, and at his church, Sacred Cross Oratory, 3682 Hwy 150 (in Preuss Plaza), Floyds Knobs, Indiana, on September 21, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
A funeral mass will be held at his church on September 21, 2026, at 11:00 am with firefighter honors. Dick will be entombed at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany, Indiana.
