Rita L. Kannapel, 88, of Sellersburg, Indiana passed away April 5, 2026. She enjoyed cutting grass, always had a positive attitude and cared about others. She wanted to always help everyone and make people smile. Rita was a supervisor with the United States Census Bureau. She got the highest honor from the Government by getting a metal for her outstanding performance.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Andrew Ehringer and Mary Florence Schindler Ehringer; her husband, Joe Kannapel and a son, Phil Kannapel.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Carol Chester (Mike); a grandson, Chris Chester (Cassie); a grandchildren, Tiffany Hernandez (Luis), William Frost, Jasmin Hernandez, Matthew Hernandez and Xavier Hernandez.
Rita brought joy to everyone, always with a smile. She will be greatly missed. A special thank you to Darlene, who Rita loved like a daughter, Darlene helped her tremendously.
Private entombment will be at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
