Robert Isaac "Bob" Owens

Bob was born in New Albany on April 12, 1941, to Troy and Mildred (Hance) Owens. He was a 1959 graduate of New Albany High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. Bob was a second-generation employee of Indiana Bell Telephone Company, retiring in 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Valley View Golf Club, American Legion Post 42 and the Vic’s Café Club.

Bob loved golfing, IU basketball, fishing at his Patoka Lake camp, drinking cold beer, finding a good bargain and making his daily rounds in New Albany. He was known to many as “Bobby Owens from the Phone Company” and leaves behind a strong circle of friends, many of whom he had for over 50 years. He was the patriarch of his family, who continuously looked to him for guidance, support and to fix whatever needed fixing.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan Stafford Owens; daughters Tammy Voigt (Todd) and Robin Wagoner (Scott); sister Susan Wolfe (Jerry); grandchildren Zachary Ricketts; Cydney, Meghan and Meredith Voigt; and Jackson and Ella Wagoner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 5, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Thursday July 6, 2017 after 11:00 am with funeral services beginning at 2:00 pm Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road in New Albany. In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (http://cholangiocarcinoma.org/) or to the Salvation Army.
