Obituary of Ronnie D. Hanger
Ronnie D. Hanger died peacefully Saturday the 19th of November at the age of 76. Born in Clarksville, Indiana, Ron was a 1964 graduate of Clarksville High School then was drafted to serve our country for the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After his service Ron dedicated his life to the service of other veterans through his work with the American Legion. His achievements include: American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post #28, Post Commander (2004, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014); American Legion 8th District Commander (2006-2007), Department Sgt-At-Arms (2010-2011), Southern Vice Commander (2015-2016). Any given weekend (or weeknight) you could find Ron at the Legion or other veteran service posts offering karaoke, a smile, and a cold beer. Ron also loved the Sportsdrome Speedway and loved nothing better than nights there with his kids and grandkids. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Hanger and Dora Hoots-Hanger and is survived by his daughter Wendy, son Kelvin and his wife Abby, and his grandchildren Luke, Max, Jack and Amanda Hanger. He is also survived by a myriad of cousins and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post #28, 1930 McDonald Ln, New Albany, IN 47150 on Saturday, December 3rd from 1-3pm. All friends and family are welcome and encouraged to come and celebrate his life – “Ron Hanger style.” Burial at the New Albany National Cemetery will follow in the coming weeks.
