Rosemary (Haller) Unruh

Rosemary Unruh, New Albany, IN, passed peacefully in her sleep from this life to heaven on Monday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 100. She was born in New Albany on February 23, 1925, the daughter of Dorothy and Lawrence Haller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, James Unruh; her daughter, Kathryn Unruh; and her sister, Doris Owens (Ron).

She is survived by her children, William Unruh, Don Unruh (Denise), and Mary Lynn Spencer (Jeff); her grandchildren, Christy Wiseman (Brandon), Emily Simpson (Justin), Allison Unruh, Lindsay Engle (Tony), Sarah Unruh, Nick Spencer, and Steven Spencer - also surviving are ten great-grandchildren: Piper, Hunter, Asher, Rylan, Josie, Carter, Mason, Logan, Kaden, and Sloan.

Rosemary attended grade school at St. Mary’s School in New Albany, where she played in the marching band and met several life-long friends. She proudly graduated from New Albany High School in the class of 1943. After high school, she was active in the USO during World War II and worked for the Boy Scouts of America in the Louisville office.

She married Jim Unruh in 1951 and was married for 25 years until his passing in 1977. She worked at First National Bank in Louisville and retired from the bank at age 65. After her retirement, she spent many years as a volunteer at Floyd Memorial Hospital.

She was a devoted Catholic and was member of St. Mary’s parish in New Albany, and later, Holy Family parish. She enjoyed family picnics, playing cards with her friends, traveling with the Toby Tours and Lift groups, watching the Indiana Hoosiers and New Albany Bulldog basketball teams, and musicals at Derby Dinner Playhouse. What she enjoyed the most, however, was being with and around her family that she truly loved. Whether it be family birthday parties, holidays get-togethers, dining after church on Sundays, or simply having family stop by the house just to visit, she always said she was happiest around her family.

A visitation for Rosemary will be held Monday, May 26, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and after 9:00 am Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 129 W Daisy Ln, New Albany, Indiana 47150. Rosemary will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana.
