Obituary of Sharon Ann (Daniel) Becht
Sharon Ann (Daniel) Becht, 76, entered into eternal rest on August 16, 2021. She was born July 9, 1945 in Louisville, KY to Russell E. and Edith M. (Hosea) Daniel. The oldest of the five Daniel daughters, Sharon graduated from Our Lady of Providence High School in 1963. After spending several years as a homemaker raising three young boys, Sharon entered the workforce in 1978 and spent nearly three decades working for the City of New Albany in the Department of Redevelopment. She worked tirelessly assisting homeowners in rehabbing their properties and helping families stay in affordable and livable homes. Sharon spent almost two decades working as a volunteer Family Advocate in the Emergency Room at Floyd Memorial Hospital on Friday nights and most holidays. She also donated time and effort in various groups to repair and restore homes that had fallen on hard times. She was incredibly dedicated to her parish, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and spent countless hours serving and volunteering in dozens of ways. She was very active in the Cursillo community, but her soft spot was working with the youth. She organized and directed many retreats for the CYO and was eventually blessed to be given the St. John Bosco award for her service, exactly 20 years to the day after her father had received the same recognition, an honor she was especially thrilled to share with her dad. Sharon was also a huge animal lover, which one could quickly learn by visiting her home. It was filled with hundreds of bears (stuffed) and always a few dogs. Her love for beagles was legendary. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Peggy Teater. She is survived by her sisters Barbara Pulliam, Carol (William) Waterhouse and Cheryl Kost; her sons Michael (Natalie) Becht, Marc (Belinda) Becht and Matthew (Ashley) Becht; grandchildren Amanda (Jim) Nally, Ashton Becht, Devin Ferreira, Eric Becht, Jacob Anderson and Kaitlyn Becht; great-grandchildren Sarah Nally and Judah Nally; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and loved-ones. The family would like to acknowledge a few of the many individuals who helped care for Sharon in the last three years including Carrie Copas, Lindsay Wise of Adaptive Hospice and Robert, her outstanding nurse at Providence Retirement Home. Additionally, much gratitude and love for the many visits, gifts and treats from niece Erin Collins, Debbie Hall and especially Rosemary Geswein, Sharon’s longest and dearest friend. Visitation for Sharon will be held at Kraft Funeral Home at 708 E Spring Street in New Albany, IN from 3PM until 8PM Thursday, August 19. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday morning at 11AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 1752 Scheller Lane in New Albany, IN immediately followed by a brief ceremony at the Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park mausoleum where she will be laid to rest. Memorial gifts in her name can be made to Providence High School or to the ASPCA.
