Sharon loved to dance, skate, and bowl- especially with her husband, Frank. They spent many Friday and Saturday nights out dancing together. Sharon was a fan of Elvis Presley, Mickey Gilley, and Engelbert Humperdinck. She cherished time with her family and maintained close bonds with her loved ones. She enjoyed chatting with family and friends on the phone, always making time to stay connected. Sharon also loved shopping and had a well-known sweet tooth- Snickers were her favorite. Her go-to fast-food stop was Long John Silver’s. Quiet and witty, Sharon had a silly personality that brightened the lives of those around her.
She was born on December 3, 1937, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Wallace and Lelia (Carpenter) Thompson. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Jewell and grandson, James.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Frank Bernhardt Jr.; their children, Kimberly Kinser, Lisa Harvey, Pamela Schmidt (Marty), and Michael Bernhardt (Dana); seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Kyle, Kristina, Cassandra, Felicia, Chelsie, and Lelia; and great-grandchildren, Christian, Zoe, Austin, Caitlan, Kylie, Chloe, Sophie, Liam, and Nolan; and one great-great grandchild, Cohen.
Visitation will be from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Kraft Funeral Home (2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN 47150). Her Funeral will take place at 2pm at the funeral home. Sharon will be entombed at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
