

Tommy Sickels, 71, of Weeki Wachee, Florida formerly of New Albany, Indiana passed away January 15, 2025, at Largo Medical Center. He was born in Ft. Knox, Kentucky on June 17, 1953, to Hideko Mutsouka McCubbins and the late Robert T. Sickels. He was a retired Sergeant for the Indianapolis Police Department and was a former member of the New Albany Floyd County Police Department.
Tommy was a retired police officer, musician and a professor of criminal justice. He was a man of many passions. He had a deep love for old cars, the music of The Beatles and Pink Floyd. He performed in a band that brought joy to many. He completed a Master of Public Administration from Indiana University and an Educational Doctorate from the University of Phoenix. From the late 1980's until 1999, he taught as an adjunct faculty member of criminal justice first at Indiana University, Indianapolis and then at Ivy Tech State College. He later taught criminal justice at University of Phoenix until December 2018. He also discovered a talent for writing and published two books that reflected his experiences as an Indianapolis Metro Police Officer. Tommy was known for his contagious laugh that could be heard across a room. He was a source of humor and inspiration to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in his family, friends, and the many lives he touched throughout his extraordinary journey.
Tommy is survived by his mother, Hideko Mutsouka McCubbins; wife, Marlene Jorge Sickels; a daughter, Mandy (Chuck) Scarbrough; grandchildren, Jaxson Richey, Ryder Scarbrough, Sophia Scarbrough, Harrison Scarbrough and Hudson Scarbrough; siblings, Robert Sickels, Michael Sickels, Judy Clark Sickels and Kathy McCubbins; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2-8 on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Kraft Funeral Service 2776 Charlestown Road New Albany, Indiana 47150. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the funeral home with burial to follow in Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
