Wally proudly served in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant (E-5). Following his military service, he devoted himself to education as a teacher at Floyd Central High School, positively impacting the lives of many students throughout his career. He created the speech and debate team and volunteered his time to calling Floyd Central Football Games.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Carol Austin; and brother, Jesse Austin.
Wally is survived by his wife of 15 years, Lesley Austin; children, Brand Austin and Chase Austin; and nephews and niece, Will, Ben, and Sarah Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Education Association in Wally's honor.
A private celebration of life will be held. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to contact the family for additional information.
