Walter (Walt/Pop) Sturgeon was born March 9, 1938 in Tell City, Indiana to the late Flora Poehlein and Mitchell Sturgeon. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Gene Young and Roy Sturgeon; sisters, Margaret Thomas and Louella Stroud; and his beloved wife of 50 years, Elsie Sturgeon.
He is survived by his children, Robert Sturgeon (Connie) and Barbara Vessels; his grandchildren, Jessica Taylor (Patrick), Jacob Mattson, and Alexa Phelps (Collier), and wife, Cathy Sturgeon.
Walt retired from IBM in 1992 after 30 years, as a senior customer engineer. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed gardening, good food, bluegrass and gospel music, and time with his family. Walt was always willing to offer support and guidance to his friends and family and was quick to make his family laugh. His life was full and well-lived.
Services will be held at Kraft Funeral Home on Charlestown Road on Thursday, January 4, 2024. Visitation will be from 12-6pm, and there will be a funeral service at 6pm.
