William D. "Bill" Embrey Sr.
July 23, 1931 – April 20, 2014

William D. “Bill” Embrey, Sr. (Cid, Hawkeye, Dr. Bill, Big Bad Bill, Coach), 82, died Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany. He was born July 23, 1931 in New Albany to the late Floyd and Norma (Weisenberger) Embrey. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Lance Embrey.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and retired after 42 years as general foreman of the composing room at the Courier-Journal. He was a 50 year member of the Clarksville Masonic Lodge #40, a McCulloch Volunteer Fireman, a Metro United Way and Crusade for Children volunteer, a founding member and past president of Clarksville Little Generals Football and Basketball and Jeffersonville Youth Basketball League, a longtime coach at McCulloch, River Valley, Clarksville High School, and the YMCA. He loved fishing and spending time at Patoka Lake. He was happiest when making others happy and made it easy to believe in the good in everyone because he believed it himself.
Survivors include:
Wife of 63 years: Mary Anne Embrey
Children: Sue Ann Stone
William D. “Chip” Embrey Jr. (Allison)
Grandchildren: Chris Corbett, Brittany Baker (Ty), Ryan, Christopher, and Daniel Stone, and Trey and Erin Embrey
Great Grandchildren: Blake Corbett and Chandler and Eli Baker
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday and after 10:00 am Thursday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Thursday at the funeral home chapel with private burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
