Albert C. Sykes

Albert “Al” C. Sykes, age 85 of Acushnet passed at St. Luke’s Hospital on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Linda Mae (Costa) Sykes to whom he had been happily married for 40 years.

Born in Fairhaven, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ada (Fenton) Sykes. Al was a lifelong area resident. He attended school in Fairhaven and worked at Alden Corrugated Container Corporation. He was veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Korea.

Al loved his family dearly, enjoyed tinkering with home projects; he was very handy and enjoyed remodeling the family’s home. He was the ultimate Jack-Of-All-Trades. He was an avid golfer during his youth and enjoyed a good day of fishing.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Terri Nichols and her husband Jamie of VA, Sheila Ashley and her husband Robert of VA, Donna Hardy and her husband John of FL, and Stacy Harwood (widow of Barry Harwood) of Fall River; a stepdaughter, Stacy Barriteau and her fiancé Ray Tetreault of Acushnet and stepson, Michael Barriteau and his wife Jennifer of New Bedford; five grandsons, Michael, Jared, Nicholas, Patrick and Shawn; a step-grandson, Joseph; 5 great grandsons; a sister-in-law, Judith Sykes; a nephew, Gary Sykes and a niece Lori Travers. He was the brother of the late Raymond Sykes.

Al’s funeral service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 10:00AM in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Al’s name may be made to: Alzheimer’s Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102. I Have been thinking of Al Since I heard. Always had a smile and full of pleasantries, I'm sure he is in a better place now. My condolences to his family, a wonderful man has left us.
