Alice (Gomes Rendall) Almeida, age 82, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Jose R. Almeida.
Born in São Vicente, Cabo Verde, Alice was the cherished daughter of the late Teodoro Rendall and the late Rosalina "Mana de Dotche" Gomes. An original “menina do Alto,” São Vicente remained a deeply special place throughout her life and she would return often to vacation.
Upon immigrating to the United States, Alice settled in Philadelphia, PA with her husband Jose. The city held a very special place in her heart. Philadelphia was where she raised her children and built cherished memories surrounded by friends and family. She dedicated thirty years of service as a material inspector with The Rodon Group, a plastic injection molding company in Montgomery, PA, until her retirement in 2006. Following her retirement, she moved to New Bedford, MA, to live with her daughter.
Outside of work, Alice brought vibrant energy, warmth, and creativity into everything she touched. She possessed a true "green thumb" and was constantly seeking new additions for her impressive collection of plants. In her free time, she could always be found crocheting or painting. Above all, Alice loved to dance—she could always be counted on to be the very first person on the dance floor, bringing joy and light to every celebration.
Alice leaves behind a devoted family who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Darlease A. Monteiro and her husband Jose of New Bedford, MA; her sons, Jose A. Almeida and his wife Kim of Philadelphia, PA; and Richard W. Rose of Cranston, RI. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Kelsey Rose, Victoria Monteiro, Gregory Monteiro, and Gianna Monteiro. She is also survived by her sister, Adelia Dos Santos of New Jersey, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Maria Olga Gomes, and her brother, Jacinto Rendall.
