Alice Vien

Alice (Motta) Vien, 98, of New Bedford died peacefully at home on June 10, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. Vien; they were married 63 wonderful years. Together, they enjoyed a fulfilling life of spending time with family and friends, dancing, spending winters in Boynton Beach, FL and traveling.

Born in Attleboro MA, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Teixeira) Motta and sister of the late Conception “Grace” Moura, Mary Nunes, Charles Motta, Silvester Motta, Joseph Motta, and John Motta.

Alice worked at the Acushnet Company's Titleist Golf Ball Division where she made many friends that she kept in close contact with for her entire life.

Alice is survived by her children; Carol Xavier and her wife Gail Donahue of New Bedford, Nancy Clerc and her husband Richard of Acushnet, Janice Vien and her husband Sean Lyon of Grantham NH, and Ronald Vien and his wife Susan of Westport. She was a beloved “Nana” to her grandchildren: Steven Xavier and his partner Michelle Gafur of Florida, Gary Xavier of California, Matthew Clerc and his wife Melissa of Tewksbury, Peter Clerc and his wife Claire of Needham, Julie Sheflin and her husband Andrew of Weymouth, Gabriel Lyon and his wife Lauren Currie of Boston and adored “Little Nana” to her great-grandchildren: Ashley Brant and her husband Justin of Colorado, Brayden, Emma, Hudson, Maya, Benjamin and great-great grandchild: Malachi.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the funeral mass in memory of Alice on Monday, July 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish (343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford MA). All are welcome to join the family immediately following for a post-funeral reception at Century House (107 S Main Street, Acushnet MA).
