Born on February 24, 1922 she was the daughter of John and Angelina Mello and wife of the late Frank O. Camara with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. Angie’s predeceased siblings include John, Antonio and Leo Mello; Hilda Carvalho, Mary Correia and Florence Mello. During her working years she was a stitcher at Massachusetts Shirt Factory and Tim’s Sportswear.
In their younger years, Frank and Angie could often be seen at dances, seafood suppers and many fundraising events. They loved playing cards with their friends and traveled all over the country to attend the Naval Seabee Reunions.
Angie is survived by her son Mark X. Camara of Oakley, CA and wife Jenny; daughter Dawn C. Ventura and husband Leonard of New Bedford, MA.
Great was the loss of her daughter Anita and her grandson Ballin Drafen.
She was a proud and adoring grandmother to Christopher Camara and wife Jodie; Lauren Argillander and husband Michael; Jaclyn Baltzer and husband Fred and Davin Camara and wife Samantha. Angie never stopped bragging about her seven great grandchildren: Jarrick and Emma Camara; Lucas, Finley and Henry Argillander; Jake and Ruby Baltzer.
Angie was a fun loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and especially close to Brenda Cabral who was like another daughter; Beverly Edmundson, Carol Cronin, Rosemarie Crete, Barbara Correia, John and Gilbert Mello. She took great pleasure going out with her nieces and many friends. She would often say: ‘ Just need to put my shoes on’ when someone called for lunch, ice cream or chicken wings from Antonio’s.
Angie’s wishes were to remain in her home until God called her to His. This was all made possible by her incredible caregivers and everyone who checked in on her. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff at Hospice Services of MA and especially Hospice nurses Trudy, Donna and Mary M; personal caregivers Jessica D. and Mary C. for their kindness, love and care. Also to companion volunteers Sharon, Nathalia, Marsha and Patricia who dropped by to sit, laugh and listen to Angie’s countless stories. And to her neighbors Carol Blouin and the late George Blouin, Karen and Daniel Bernier who always looked out for Angie we are truly humbled by their caring support.
In addition we want to extend our deep appreciation to devoted private caregivers Linell and Kim without whom we could not have walked this journey.
Linell and Kim consistently administered love, compassion and undivided attention. They met and exceeded all of Angie’s needs and we are forever grateful.
