Angelina and her husband Eduardo immigrated from Ribeira Cha to the United States in 1966 and lived in New Bedford all their lives. She is survived by her younger sister (Maria) who resides in Canada. She would regularly speak to her sister and they would talk for hours.
Angelina loved her family and her faith. Angelina was a devout catholic at Mount Carmel church and a member of “Irmandate do Santo Rosario”. She would walk to church to attend the daily mass, rain or shine until she was unable to do so. She would attend mass, sit on the front pew, and at the end of mass would wait for her friends to greet her.
Sunday was her special day. Nothing pleased her more than to prepare a Sunday meal for the family. We believe it was her way to bring the family together. Come mid-week, she was already making meal plans for Sunday. On Sunday afternoons, she loved spending time with her sister-in-law Adelina, reminiscing about the old days and would compare their health.
We’ll miss her malasadas, queijadas and sweet bread, and she made them well into her mid 90’s.
She was blessed with 6 grandchildren (Eric, Pamela, Joshua, Kristen, Amber and Curtis) and also with 9 great grandchildren (Hazel, Noralyn, Charlotte, Delaney, Trent, Willow, Wren, Audrey and Jaime). Her face would light up when they visited.
Her passion was gardening and loved working on her flowers. When she was no longer able to maintain her garden, she then enlisted her children (Joe, Lucy and Maria) to take over with much criticism. She loved crocheting, made doilies, table cloths and blankets. She loved to read and watch her novellas.
Mom was stubbornly independent and insisted on doing everything herself…sometimes to a fault. Her resilience to survive was amazing. We were so blessed to have such an extraordinary woman for 98 years and she has taught us so much about life. Life will never be the same without her. She was loved by all.
