

Ann was the daughter of the late Joseph Alexander Richard and Cora (Donaldson) Richard. She graduated from New Bedford High School, Class of 1958, and later earned an Associate’s degree in social work from Bristol Community College.
She worked in the field of social work and also served as a secretary in various law firms, bringing a dependable presence and thoughtful professionalism to every role she held.
Ann was formerly married to Raymond R. Bergeron and was the wife of the late Raul R. Ribeiro and Robert J. Allard. She is survived by her daughters, Maureen Vivian Kinsley and her husband Robert, and Susan Ann Woodward and her husband Jeffrey; her sister, Vivianne Brouillette and her husband Alfred; and her grandchildren, Ryan Coffey, Nicole, Ashley, and Olivia Kinsley. She is also survived by 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
Ann took a strong interest in politics and civic life. She served as Past President of the North End Neighborhood Association and Neighborhoods United, and she was known for her commitment to volunteer work. She was a member of the New Bedford Police Auxiliary, and in the 1970s became the first female of the Civil Defense office in New Bedford. She also served as a member of the Zoning Board. In her youth, she worked with the Red Cross at St. Luke’s Hospital and volunteered for Girl Scout Troop 84. In quieter moments, she enjoyed reading, bird watching, and researching family history on ancestry.com.
Ann was a dedicated, community-minded woman whose life reflected steady service to others and deep care for her city and family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 4-6pm with a Funeral Service at 4:30pm in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. A Celebration of Ann's Life will be held on August 9, 2026.
