Armand J. Lafond

Armand J. Lafond, 102, of New Bedford passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Southeast Mass Health and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Marianna (Caplette) Lafond to whom he was married for 69 years.

A lifelong New Bedford resident, son of the late Lucien and Marie (Ruis) Lafond, he was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church. Mr. Lafond was employed by The New Bedford Rayon Company for over 40 years until its closing, then he worked at Foxboro Instrument Company . He was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed crossword puzzles and thoroughly enjoyed his yearly reunions with his children.

Survivors include his seven children Lorraine Reed of Fall River ; Lucien Lafond and his wife Rose of Oro Valley, Arizona; Robert Lafond and his wife Sharon of Owensboro, Kentucky; Donald Lafond and his wife Diane of Acushnet; Rita Meehan of New Hampshire; Roland Lafond of Owensboro, Kentucky; Lucille De Costa and her husband James of North Dartmouth; 22 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren,4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Leona Trudeau, Romeo Lafond, Cora Chase, Florida Ward and Juliette Newton. The family would like to thank the staff of Southeastern Mass Health and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care and understanding.

His funeral will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 at 9am at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated at 10am at St. Francis Xavier Church, 125 Main Street, Acushnet, MA.
