Aurelia M. Raposo, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2026 at the Sacred Heart Home. She was born on March 21, 1933, in Sao Miguel, Faial da Terra, Azores, the daughter of the late Joao Fernandes de Melo and Maria Pereira (Resendes) de Melo. She later made her way to the United States, arriving on January 9, 1968, and lived in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
With steady hands and a strong work ethic, Aurelia worked as a stitcher in local textile mills, contributing to her family and community through years of honest labor. Her care was not confined to the workplace; it was evident in the quiet, faithful ways she lived each day, guided by her Christian faith and a deep devotion to those around her.
Aurelia found joy in the simple, lasting comforts of home—gardening and flowers, stitching, and cooking for family and friends. She was happiest when doing for others, offering her time and attention in ways that made people feel welcomed, remembered, and cared for.
She was the beloved wife of the late Manuel T. Raposo, who died in 2000, and the loving mother of Joao M. Raposo and wife Rita; Pedro D. Raposo and wife Susan; Aurelia M. Da Silva and husband Jose; Marilou Raposo and partner Tom Anger; Carlos M. Raposo and partner Sandra Aguiar; and her late son, Manuel M. Raposo.
She is also survived by her sister, Honorina Simas of Montreal. She was the sister of the late Manuel Fernandes de Melo and the late Amilcar Resendes de Melo.
Aurelia’s legacy continues through her grandchildren, Ricardo Raposo and wife Fatima; Rita Raposo; Rosa Maria Raposo-Leite and husband Jason; Melissa Raposo and partner Mike; Peter-Henry Da Silva and wife Nicole; Kimberley Raposo; Patrick Da Silva and wife Chantelle; Kendra Gray and partner Scott Martell, Jr.; Daniel Raposo, Jr. and partner Gabby; Justin Raposo; Sydney Raposo and Lori Varley and husband Mike; and her great-grandchildren, Brianna Clawson, Bobby Cote, Kaiden Farrell, Jax Da Silva, Jeremiah Butler, Grayson Da Silva, Domi Gray, Oakley Da Silva and Adrian Raposo. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
